During a counteroffensive, Ukrainian forces reclaimed more than 400 km² of territory. And restored control over nearly the entire Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff, Oleksandr Komarenko, reported this.
Details
Komarenko said that during the counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces regained control over significant areas. Troops still need to complete operations in three small settlements in the region and clear two more villages of enemy forces.
He added that in February alone, Ukrainian forces restored control over more territory than Russian forces managed to capture during the same period—a first since 2024.
Specifically, the Air Assault Forces regained control over 285.6 km² in the Oleksandrivsk direction in one month, and over 400 km² overall since the start of the operation.
Despite these gains, Komarenko emphasized that the frontline situation remains difficult. The toughest sectors currently remain Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivsk, where Russian forces concentrate their main efforts.
He also noted that enemy attacks near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad slightly decreased after Russia redeployed troops to the Oleksandrivsk direction.
Context
As of early 2026, Russian forces occupy approximately 116,165–116,250 km² of Ukrainian territory, around 19% of the country’s total area.
Russian troops currently prepare to intensify offensive actions near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, building reserves and using aviation more actively.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that Ukrainian Defense Forces reclaimed 201 km² from Russian forces between February 11 and 15—the largest territorial gain in over two and a half years.
