UK and France call summit: restoring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz

Great Britain and France are initiating a joint conference to establish a multinational mission in the Strait of Hormuz. This event aims to guarantee the free movement of vessels in a strategically vital region following the recent full-scale escalation. The participants intend to develop a security plan that will restore stable trade operations and reduce pressure on global energy markets.

French President Emmanuel Macron reported this on Monday, April 13.

He emphasized that the upcoming operation will remain strictly defensive and will not be involved in the direct conflict between the parties.

“This mission, which will be exclusively peaceful and separate from the parties to the conflict, is designed to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and will be deployed as soon as the situation permits,” the President explained.

Macron added that Paris is ready to play a leading role in stabilizing the situation through diplomatic means.

What is known about the coordination of efforts

The British government also confirmed its active participation in organizing this summit. Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted that the closure of the Strait causes profound harm to global shipping and increases the cost of living for citizens.

He reported this while highlighting the vital importance of protecting international waters.

“This week, the UK and France will co-host a summit to drive work on a coordinated, independent, multinational plan to protect international shipping when the conflict ends,” the Prime Minister stated.

Beyond maritime logistics, the leaders plan to address Iran’s ballistic activities and the restoration of Lebanese integrity. Currently, the coalition is developing technical mechanisms to enable private carriers to resume voyages and reduce insurance costs. Next week, military planners in the UK will begin detailed work on the technical aspects of this peaceful operation.
