US President Donald Trump made a number of controversial statements regarding Greenland, Iran, Ukraine, and global security while speaking with journalists aboard Air Force One on January 11.

“Greenland’s Defense Is Two Dog Sleds”

Speaking about Greenland’s security, Trump said the island effectively has no real defense and is vulnerable to external influence.

“Greenland’s defense basically consists of two dog sleds. Do you know that? Do you know what their defense is? Two dog sleds. Meanwhile, Russian destroyers and submarines, and Chinese destroyers and submarines, are everywhere,” he told reporters.

According to Trump, if the United States does not “take” Greenland, Russia or China will. He insisted that Greenland should strike a deal with the United States to prevent Moscow or Beijing from expanding their influence in the Arctic.

“That won’t happen as long as I’m president,” Trump said, referring to the possibility of Russia or China seizing the island.

He has previously stated that Greenland’s incorporation into the United States could happen “the easy way or the hard way.”

Denmark Rejects Claims, No Evidence of Russian or Chinese Presence

Trump did not provide any evidence of Russian or Chinese military vessels operating near Greenland. Denmark has rejected such claims, while data from MarineTraffic and LSEG show no recorded activity by Russian or Chinese ships in the area.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has previously said that a forced annexation of Greenland by the United States would mean the end of NATO.

According to Bloomberg, Germany is considering proposing the creation of a joint NATO mission to protect the Arctic. Berlin is expected to raise the initiative during talks in Washington.

Iran Is “Tired” and Wants Talks

During the same conversation with journalists, Trump claimed that Iranian representatives had allegedly called him seeking negotiations.

“I think they’re tired of the United States hitting them,” the US president said, adding that the military is considering “very strong options.”

Trump on Zelenskyy: “He Has No Cards”

Trump also once again commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, claiming that he has “no cards” other than Trump’s own support.

“He has only one thing — Donald Trump,” the US president said, stressing that without his involvement the war could have escalated into World War III.

It is worth noting that last February, during a meeting in the Oval Office, Trump told Zelenskyy: “You don’t have any cards.”

Conclusion

Statements made by Donald Trump during a single exchange with journalists highlight his tough and highly personalized approach to global security — from the Arctic and the Middle East to the war in Ukraine.

His rhetoric on Greenland, Russia, and China has raised concerns among US allies, particularly in Europe, while his remarks on Iran and Ukraine once again underscore his effort to position himself as a central and indispensable actor in resolving international crises. At the same time, the lack of verified evidence to support the alleged threats and the sharp tone of his statements add to tensions with partners and raise questions about the stability of the current international security architecture.
