The White House confirmed that the United States will participate in the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, which was initiated by Ukraine. But it has not yet been announced whether President Joe Biden will participate in the event.
This was stated by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre at a briefing, reports Suspilne.
“We have actively participated in each of the previous Ukrainian peace summits. The US government is participating in this. And we will be represented at this upcoming summit”, — she said.
When asked whether US President Joe Biden will be present at the Global Peace Summit, Karine Jean-Pierre replied that she “doesn’t have any more specific information to share”.
“It is important for us to continue to make sure that Ukraine has all the capabilities necessary for protection, as well as for ensuring a just and durable peace”, — the spokeswoman of the White House said.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that President Joe Biden is likely to miss next month’s Ukraine summit because of a planned campaign fundraiser in California, which he is expected to attend along with George Clooney, Julia Roberts and other stars.
Global Peace Summit
During his visit to Switzerland on January 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the two countries are starting preparations for the Global Peace Summit at the level of leaders.
And on April 10, it became known that Switzerland will host the Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine. The summit will be held on June 15-16 at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden, near the city of Lucerne.
