The Swedish government announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. This is the largest package to date. Its value exceeds 13 billion Swedish kroner or 1.3 billion dollars.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Sydsvenskan.
Today’s military aid package will be Sweden’s sixteenth since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. The money, which will be invested in additional changes to the budget, will also provide an opportunity to strengthen the air defense of Ukraine.
Sweden will also transfer ASC 890 radar reconnaissance and control aircraft. According to the government, this will give Ukraine “absolutely new capabilities for radar reconnaissance and combat control of targets in the air and at sea”. This also means that the ability to engage targets at long range is increased. Such aircraft are supplied with training and technical equipment.
In addition to the planes, Sweden will transfer its entire supply of 302 armored personnel carriers to support the formation of new brigades of the Ukrainian army. The package includes the Rb 99 (AMRAAM) robot fighter, as well as artillery ammunition and maintenance facilities for previously transferred equipment.
According to the government, the support package means a temporary reduction in Sweden’s defense capabilities. This will be solved thanks to Sweden’s purchase of new grenades, a new Golden Eye type aircraft and a new shrapnel-proof vehicle.
Currently, taking into account the funds presented today, Sweden has already provided support to Ukraine in the amount of SEK 43.5 billion. Also recently, the government presented a long-term program for the continuation of military support to Ukraine in the amount of 75 billion Swedish kronor, allocated for the years 2024-2026.
