On August 9-18, 2024, the First Sergiy Winogradskiy International Summer School – took place in Horodok, Khmelnytsky region. The event was organized by the Sergiy Winogradskiy Club in cooperation with the National Center “Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” and with the support of sponsors, including the family of Professor of Medicine Mykola Humeniuk and other partners.

The 20 participants were selected from among students from schools in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, including the city of Horodok, who are fond of creativity, knowledge of nature, and are winners of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the field of natural sciences.
The goal of the project was to create a modern communication platform where students could immerse themselves in free scientific and creative communication, build their skills in research, self-presentation, and teamwork. Receive up-to-date popular science information on the state of the art of world science directly from top foreign speakers. Immerse yourself in the history of your region and get acquainted with the scientific heritage of Ukrainian scientists whose discoveries are recognized worldwide.

During the two training modules, participants listened to lectures from leading scientists and business coaches from different countries, took part in scientific expeditions and created their own startups.
One of the modules was dedicated to innovation and leadership, where students studied modern business models and worked on developing startups. The team that presented the automatic turnstile “Saver” with a digital stopwatch based on Arduino won this module.

The second module was devoted to academic work in the natural sciences, where participants studied mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and astronomy, as well as conducted laboratory research. The Rosa Canina team won this module, presenting scientific results on the study of local plants. The scientific component of their presentation was awarded bonus points.

Winogradskiy International Summer School was a unique opportunity for high school students to gain practical skills in an innovative biological laboratory, acquire new knowledge of the natural sciences, and deepen their understanding of the role of these sciences as components in the creation of modern multicomponent technologies, learn about successful Ukrainian startup cases that are at the stage of implementation in industrial production or international commercial transfer (based on the examples of startups of the Up To Future Public Union), as well as become a member of a startup team and prepare their own project.

This unique educational project has become a real platform for the development of future scientists and entrepreneurs, uniting them in teams that worked on real projects and startups.
