The European Union plans to speed up the process of Moldova joining the bloc as quickly as possible. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized the need for urgent action during her visit to Chisinau.

Reuters reported that Brussels has not yet set a specific date for the start of official negotiations.
However, Kallas stated that the EU must act while there is unanimous support among member states.
“That’s why I also think we should act while no one is against Moldova, because you never know when a government will come in that may have, you know, a bilateral problem,” Kallas added.
Integration progress and reforms
The EU top diplomat praised Moldova’s progress in implementing key reforms despite security challenges. During the meeting with President Maia Sandu, Kallas noted that the Transnistrian conflict would not hinder the integration process. This position provides Chisinau with a clear path forward regardless of the occupied territory’s status.
President Sandu confirmed that Moldova aims to sign the accession treaty by 2028. The country has already accelerated its exit from Russian-led structures like the CIS. The Moldovan Parliament recently denounced the agreement establishing the CIS, signaling a definitive turn toward Europe. This legislative move received broad support from the ruling party and other pro-European factions.
