Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN Security Council in New York. He “informed” him about the Ukrainian Peace Summit held in Switzerland in June.
The politician wrote about this on the social network X, Radio Svoboda reports.
The Russian ministry said that during the meeting, Lavrov “presented a principled assessment of the development of the situation in Ukraine since the 2014 coup d’état, emphasizing the doom of the attempts of the ‘collective West’ to present various kinds of ultimatums to Russia”.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement did not indicate whether it was about the results of the Peace Summit.
On June 15-16, the first Peace Summit organized by Ukraine took place in Switzerland. It was attended by 91 states and 8 international organizations. Due to the absence of Russia at the summit, some countries, including China, refused to send representatives to the meeting, as they considered it useless without the participation of “both sides of the conflict.”
After the summit, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis suggested that the next meeting could be held before the November 2024 US elections. And Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there are already countries interested in hosting the second Peace Summit, and Kyiv has begun negotiations with them. However, he did not name these countries.
