Germany allocates €10 million to rebuild Okhmatdyt

17.07.2024

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany is allocating €10 million to the Ukrainian government for the reconstruction of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Babel informs.

This was reported by the Rheinische Post.

According to the publication, these funds, along with financial assistance from other sponsors and donors, will be used to make the hospital operational by winter.

The destruction of the children’s hospital shows how ruthlessly and brutally Russia is waging this war of aggression. Children suffer the most from this war. We must not and will not accept that Ukraine no longer has this health facility for children with cancer, – said Svenja Schulze, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.

The German Ministry for Development has a close partnership with the Okhmatdyt hospital through German-Ukrainian cooperation in healthcare.

We have offered the Ukrainian government to help rebuild the hospital so that children can quickly receive urgent treatment, – the minister continued.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksii Makeiev also emphasized that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has completely destroyed more than 210 medical facilities in Ukraine and seriously damaged more than 1,600.

Thank you all for this – it is much more than abstract condolences. In order to overcome the consequences of Russian terror, we must immediately start rebuilding. Germany has once again provided us with concrete assistance. With €10 million, our German partners have once again demonstrated leadership, – he said.

Experts estimate that the reconstruction of Okhmatdyt will require approximately €113 million.
