The South African government prevented the delivery of artillery ammunition that Poland had ordered from a North African company. They feared that the shells would end up in Ukraine, Hromadske reports.
According to Rzeczpospolita, citing its own information, journalists managed to find out that a few months after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland signed a contract for the supply of ammunition with the German company Rheinmetall. The company was supposed to deliver 50,000 shells to Warsaw.
However, as it became known, as of August 2024, Poland had not received the expected weapons.
A division of the Polish Ministry of Defense said that the contract was terminated last year in July “due to problems with the subcontractor’s performance.”
The publication writes that the ammunition for Poland was to be produced by the South African company Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall. However, the South African government blocked the supply of ammunition to Poland, fearing that the shells would end up in Ukraine.
It should be noted that South Africa is a member of the BRICS, an organization co-founded by Russia.
