Hungary says it has found a way to secure oil after Ukraine’s sanctions

22.08.2024

Hungary has found a way to provide itself with oil after Ukraine imposed a partial ban on the transit of Russian Lukoil oil through its territory in June, Hromadske reports.

This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian edition Hirado informs.

According to the official, negotiations to guarantee oil supplies to Hungary are nearing the finish line. Péter Szijjártó also accused the European Commission of not taking any measures against Ukraine’s actions that “threatened the energy security of Hungary and Slovakia”.

Unfortunately, the European Commission continues to behave in an unacceptable manner with regard to Ukraine’s de facto ban on the supply of Russian oil company Lukoil to Hungary and Slovakia. Ukraine and the EU have an association agreement, according to which Kyiv cannot block the transit of energy to EU member states, – Péter Szijjártó said.

At the same time, he noted that natural gas supplies to Hungary are uninterrupted through

the Turkish Stream pipeline, which, according to Szijjártó, “does not depend on the escalation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine”.
