President of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) Cyril Ramaphosa supports the “peace plan” to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war proposed by China and Brazil, Suspilne informs.

He said this following a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, CCTV reports.

South Africa supports the six-point consensus proposed by China and Brazil on a political settlement of the Ukrainian issue (as China calls the war that Russia has launched against Ukraine – ed.), – Ramaphosa said.

In addition, Ramaphosa emphasized that China and South Africa have established a high level of political trust. The South African leader noted that there is a “deep traditional friendship” between the countries, and their positions and goals on many issues coincide. He is currently on an official visit to China. There, he plans to attend the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will take place from September 4 to 6.

Earlier, Beijing called on more countries to support China’s “peace plan” for Ukraine after a series of diplomatic talks with Indonesia, Brazil, and South Africa.

On May 23, 2024, the governments of Brazil and China issued a joint statement on resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine, advocating political negotiations to achieve peace and calling for a conference on the matter.

On August 2, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that the Sing-Brazilian “six-point consensus” on ending the war in Ukraine had received “positive” responses from more than 110 countries.
