The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported this.

How the “double agent” operated

Investigators say the military member first worked as a UAV operator. He reportedly shared information with Russian and Belarusian intelligence about the positions and numbers of drones along the northeastern border.

Later, they promoted him to operate ground robotic complexes (GRCs) that evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition. There, he allegedly passed on information about unit locations and technical characteristics of the GRCs.

After completing these tasks, he planned to escape to Russia across the front line, where contacts awaited him. Law enforcement detained him in the Kharkiv region.

The authorities charged him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – treason during martial law. This article carries a life sentence.

Context

The detention occurred amid active use of the Unmanned Systems Forces at the front, particularly in the northeastern and Izyum directions.

In January 2026, the Security Service of Ukraine detained several FSB agents within one week. They prepared attacks on military personnel, sabotage on infrastructure, and coordinated Russian shelling in various regions of Ukraine.

Between 2024–2025, the SBU recorded over 400 cases of attempts to recruit Ukrainians for arson, terrorism, or sabotage. One in five of these recruits was a minor.

Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that Ukrainian and Moldovan law enforcement uncovered an agent-combat group allegedly recruited by Russian intelligence to prepare assassinations of Ukrainian public figures.
