Scholz says Germany “remains the biggest supporter of Ukraine in Europe”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine, amid media reports of alleged restrictions on aid to Ukraine.

He wrote about this in X, Babel reports.

According to him, Germany “has been and remains the biggest supporter of Ukraine in Europe”.

We are continuing our support by providing a €50 billion loan together with the G7, which will allow Ukraine to purchase weapons on a large scale. It can rely on this, – he said.

Earlier in the day, German Finance Ministry spokesman Fabian Leber said that Germany would continue to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian invasion for as long as necessary, Bloomberg reports.

He explained that budget constraints mean that funding for additional assistance to Ukraine will not be available from the federal budget.

According to Leber, Scholz’s ruling coalition and its international partners expect that part of the support for Ukraine will be financed by the proceeds of the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.
