Police discovered the drone in the village of Sofia in the Drochia district. After that, officers secured the area. Then they called explosive disposal specialists to inspect the object.

Authorities Respond as Moldova Feels War Impact

According to police, the drone can carry a combat payload like a kamikaze drone. It can also conduct reconnaissance. However, the device found in Moldova carried no explosives. Moreover, this is the third drone discovered in the country since the start of the year.

Meanwhile, Moldova’s Foreign Ministry said it strongly condemns any incidents that may violate the country’s airspace and threaten public safety. In addition, the ministry stressed that Moldova protects its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also said authorities closely monitor the situation with national agencies.

The incident comes amid ongoing indirect effects of Russia’s war against Ukraine on Moldova. Recently, the country suffered a major power outage. As a result, many residents lost electricity. Trolleybuses stopped running, and traffic lights went dark.

Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry said the drone incident poses a risk to public safety and violates Moldova’s airspace. Authorities urged citizens to stay away from suspicious objects. At the same time, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said the case shows Russia’s aggression and the need to strengthen air defenses against drones. According to local authorities, nearly 20 Russian drones have fallen in Moldova since the start of the full-scale war. Most were Gerbera-type drones and carried no explosives.

Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that a major outage in late January resulted from problems on high-voltage power lines between Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. Consequently, part of the power grid shut down in a cascade failure.
