Prime Minister of Georgia to participate in the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin

10.06.2024

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze will take part in the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2024) on June 11-12 in Berlin.

This was reported by Netgazeti, citing the government’s press service, according to Suspilne.

The prime minister will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Head of the Government Administration Levan Giorgoliani.

The government noted that the main goal of the event is to mobilize international support for the restoration, reconstruction, reforms and modernization of Ukraine.

“URC2024 will focus on four thematic areas: mobilizing the private sector for recovery and economic growth; social recovery and human capital for Ukraine’s future; restoration of municipalities and regions; and accession to the European Union and related reforms”, — the statement said.

During the conference, participants will discuss:

  • Macroeconomic stability
  • Resilience and security
  • Infrastructure development
  • Housing issues
  • Energy issues
  • Environmental protection
  • Health care
  • Education

The conference, organized jointly by Germany and Ukraine, will bring together more than 2,000 people from more than 60 countries: representatives of governments, business and civil society. This is the third conference since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

Earlier, the head of the Georgian government, Irakli Kobakhidze, again made another critical statement about Ukraine. This time, he criticized the events of the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine, noting that “no one in Georgia will wait for the Maidan.” He also emphasized that after 2013 Ukraine became a country with a “collapsed” economy.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry condemned Kobakhidze’s “anti-Ukrainian” statement and noted that it was regrettable to “observe the consistent and constant degradation” of Kobakhidze’s political statements, which have recently become “difficult to distinguish” from those of the Russian leadership.
