Pentagon does not consider Ukraine’s operation in Kursk region an escalation

The US Department of Defense does not believe that the operation of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia is an escalation, Hromadske reports.

Deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said this, as quoted by journalist Ostap Yarysh.

We do not believe that this is in any way an escalation. Ukraine is doing what it needs to do to be successful on the battlefield, – Singh said.

She added that the United States will continue to support Ukraine with the means it needs.

What is happening in the Kursk region?

Amid reports from Russia’s military “correspondents” about a border breach in the Kursk region, Russian leader Vladimir Putin has claimed a “large-scale provocation” by Ukraine.

However, Ukraine’s military leadership has not yet commented on the events in Kursk.

The head of the Kursk region confirmed that local residents were being evacuated from the border of the region. All emergency services in Kursk region have been put on high alert.

“The Institute for the Study of War”(ISW), citing geolocation footage and statements by Russian “military officers”, writes that Ukrainian forces appear to be present in areas up to 35 kilometers in the Kursk region of Russia from the international border with Sumy Oblast. However, they do not control the entire area.

According to the Washington Post, Ukraine now controls the Sudzha gas metering station, located about 8 kilometers inland from Russia.
