Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has written a letter to European Council President Charles Michel in which he proposed to restore diplomatic relations with Russia.
This was reported by Bild, which has access to the letter, Espreso informs.
In his letter, Orbán provides a “generalized assessment” of his recent talks with the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, China, Turkey and President Donald Trump. As the publication knows, the letter takes up one and a half A4 pages.
In general, we can state that the intensity of the military conflict will radically increase in the near future, – Orbán writes about the Russian-Ukrainian war.
In addition, in his letter, the Hungarian prime minister calls for negotiations with China on a “peace conference”, the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia, and a “political offensive” against the Global South, “whose respect we have lost because of our position on the war in Ukraine”.
In the letter, Orbán mentions his talks in the United States and criticizes President Joe Biden: “The incumbent is making great efforts to stay in the race. It is obvious that he is not able to change the current US military policy, and therefore he cannot be expected to start a new policy”.
At the same time, the Hungarian prime minister praises former US President Donald Trump and notes that if he wins the presidential election, he “will not wait for his inauguration, but will be ready to immediately act as a peace mediator”.
Orbán warns, however, that Trump’s election victory would be “costly” for the EU: “I am more than convinced that in the event of a possible victory of President Trump, the financial burden between the US and the EU will change significantly in a way that is unfavorable for the EU when it comes to financial support for Ukraine”
