Despite earlier reports suggesting that Valerii Zaluzhnyi might return to Kyiv, the Ukrainian ambassador to the United Kingdom continues to perform his duties. His media adviser, Oksana Torop, confirmed this in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.
As always, unnamed sources claim to know everything about Zaluzhnyi and his plans. But nothing has changed. He continues to defend Ukraine’s interests as ambassador to the UK, Torop said.

No Changes in London
Recent statements dismiss earlier media reports that Zaluzhnyi would return to Ukraine in early January. At the same time, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces remains one of the most trusted figures both in Ukrainian society and in international diplomatic circles. This makes his voice in Ukraine’s foreign policy particularly important.
Torop emphasized that Zaluzhnyi is currently focused on defending Ukraine’s interests in the UK and maintaining international coordination with Ukraine’s partners.

Why His Role Matters
Zaluzhnyi has repeatedly pointed out that the war could remain frozen for several years. He also stresses that Ukraine needs to prepare for a new round of confrontation with Russia. These statements have sparked mixed reactions among Ukrainians. Some see them as valuable strategic analysis. Others feel concerned about the complexity and duration of the scenarios he describes.
Nevertheless, sociological surveys confirm that he remains among the top leaders in public trust, alongside President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov.
Zaluzhnyi is associated with responsibility and strength. Therefore, any news about his plans immediately gains political significance, explains Oleksii Antypovych, head of the Rating group.

Conclusions
Despite the denial of resignation rumors, it remains clear that Valerii Zaluzhnyi continues to play a key role in Ukraine’s diplomatic policy. His official position in London ensures the country’s presence at important international forums and supports strategic partners.
At the same time, this situation highlights once again how vulnerable the Ukrainian information space is. It also underlines the importance of clear and timely communication from official sources.
Zaluzhnyi’s actual return to Kyiv or his participation in political processes has not been confirmed yet. However, the situation could still change.
