New Zealand has imposed new sanctions on five people and six companies from Russia and Belarus, Babel reports.
This was announced by New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, the press service of the New Zealand government reports.
It is known that the sanctions include those who support Russia’s full-scale invasion and were involved in the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the Russian military-industrial complex.
Sanctions against Belarusian figures are a joint effort with our like-minded international partners to condemn and hold accountable those who support Russia’s illegal actions, – the New Zealand government’s press service said.
They also noted that the occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP by Russia threatens nuclear safety, so they called for its de-occupation.
Since March 2022, New Zealand has imposed sanctions against more than 1.7 thousand individuals and legal entities, as well as a number of trade restrictions on Russia.
As a reminder, in early March 2022, Russians occupied the ZNPP. Since then, it has been operating under their control. During this time, there have been eight full blackouts and one partial blackout at ZNPP.
Also, since September 2022, the IAEA mission has been at the plant. Ukraine insists on the withdrawal of the Russian occupiers from the plant. And President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes that as long as Russian soldiers are at ZNPP, “the world remains on the verge of a nuclear disaster”. Russia refuses to create a demilitarized zone at ZNPP.
