Leaders of the United States, India, Japan, Australia call for peace in Ukraine

In their joint statement, the leaders of the Quad countries (Australia, India, Japan, and the United States) emphasized the importance of upholding international law and the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states. They expressed deep concern over the war in Ukraine and its devastating humanitarian consequences.

This is stated in a joint statement published on the White House website, Suspilne reports.

The Quad leaders, each of whom has visited Ukraine since the beginning of the war, emphasized the need to achieve a just and lasting peace that is consistent with international law and the principles of the UN Charter. 

In addition, the leaders noted the negative impact of the war on global food and energy security, especially for developing countries.

The Quad countries unanimously declared that the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is unacceptable and called on all states to refrain from the use or threat of force against the sovereignty or territorial integrity of any country.

We reaffirm the need for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, – the joint statement issued by the White House reads.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine wants New Delhi to “moderate” negotiations with Russia and use its connections to persuade Moscow to join the peace talks.
