Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the royal visit demonstrates strong solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

An official government delegation led by the Swedish Foreign Minister accompanied the 80-year-old King. During the meeting, Sweden pledged approximately €4 billion in new aid for Ukraine. This financial support will cover both security needs and humanitarian initiatives.

A primary focus of the talks was the enhancement of Ukraine’s Air Force. Both leaders discussed the potential transfer of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets. Training for Ukrainian pilots on these aircraft is expected to begin shortly. Furthermore, Sweden remains committed to the Bring Kids Back program. This initiative focuses on returning Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia. Sweden also supports humanitarian projects regarding school nutrition and energy infrastructure.

Resilience Strategy: Local Production of Defense Systems

In Lviv, the Ukrainian President outlined strategic priorities for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Ukraine aims to maintain national resilience and counter Russian attempts to exploit global instability. The main goal remains the acquisition of advanced anti-ballistic missile systems. Ukraine is currently developing a strategy with Germany, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden to move beyond equipment donations.

“We are moving towards conditions where we can produce air defense in Ukraine together with partners — all necessary formats: systems, missiles, and more. This is a serious strategic task for Ukraine — a real task that will guarantee protection for decades,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President noted that security guarantees must rely on Ukraine’s ability to manufacture its own weapons. Ukraine is ready to share its unique combat experience and technologies with Sweden. In return, Kyiv seeks industrial licenses and a strengthened manufacturing base. This cooperation requires the unblocking of European financial packages for strategic defense projects. Only a consolidated front can prevent Vladimir Putin from benefiting from rising oil prices or international chaos.

King Carl XVI Gustaf last visited Ukraine in 2008 alongside Queen Silvia. At that time, they visited Kyiv and the village of Zmiivka in the Kherson region.

Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that the EU to disburse €2.7 billion to Ukraine following reform implementation.
