30.09.2024

On September 30, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó in Budapest, Suspilne reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, the ministers discussed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO, the development of further relations and the Ukrainian Formula for Peace.

The ministers also exchanged views on the protection of the rights of national minorities. Andrii Sybiha emphasized that today ethnic Hungarians are defending Ukraine on the battlefield, and their support is also felt in the rear.

For us, this is the best evidence that the Hungarian national community is our strength, our Erős Pista (Hungarian: “strong Stephen”, a famous Hungarian seasoning, very spicy, has cultural and archetypal connotations – ed), in culinary terms, we are now equal in the defense of our freedom and life, – Sybiha said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister also said that he had discussed with the Hungarian side the “peace formula” and “victory plan” initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

I thanked Mr. Minister Péter Szijjártó for participating in the First Peace Summit and joining its Joint Communiqué. We hope that Hungary, as a country that actively advocates peace, will continue to support Ukrainian initiatives and contribute to their speedy implementation, – Sybiha said.

During the meeting, the foreign ministers also raised the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO, as well as “punishing Russia for the atrocities and crimes of aggression” committed during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
