U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed with newly appointed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Wednesday the “immediate and continued” support of Ukraine by the United States and NATO.

This is stated in a statement by the spokesman for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, Radio Svoboda reports.

The report states that the support will be provided through the implementation of a NATO program to provide assistance and training to Ukraine in the field of security “to help Ukraine defend itself today and deter Russian aggression in the future”.

Earlier, at his first press conference as NATO Secretary General, Rutte said that the more assistance provided to Ukraine, the sooner the war will end. He called increasing military assistance to Kyiv a priority.

Asked by journalists whether he supported the position of the previous secretary general that Ukraine should be allowed to be a Western weapon deep into Russia, he said that he understood Ukraine’s request and that it had the right to do so.
