On September 26, U.S. President Joe Biden announced new defense assistance to Ukraine totaling $7.9 billion.
This is stated on the White House website, Babel reports.
Biden also authorized the allocation of $5.5 billion under the presidential arms reduction authority.
In addition, the Pentagon will allocate $2.4 billion for security assistance under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which will provide Ukraine with additional air defense equipment, unmanned aerial systems, and air-to-ground munitions, as well as strengthen Ukraine’s defense industrial base and support its maintenance and support needs.
Separately, Biden confirmed the decision to provide Ukraine with long-range JSOW munitions.
He also instructed the U.S. Department of Defense to repair and provide Ukraine with an additional battery of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as additional missiles to them. And to expand the training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots by training 18 more pilots next year.
He also said that the U.S. Department of Justice, Treasury, and the Secret Service, in coordination with international partners, today took steps to disrupt a global cryptocurrency network that has been helping Russia evade sanctions
Next month, I will convene a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at the level of leaders in Germany to coordinate the efforts of the more than 50 countries that support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. With these actions, I am sending a clear message: The United States will provide Ukraine with the support it needs to win this war, – Biden summarized.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the allocation of aid by thanking Biden, the U.S. Congress and both Republican and Democratic parties.
