The administration of US President Joe Biden has sent a secret report to Congress on its strategy for the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported on September 10, citing three sources, Radiosvoboda informs.
It is stated that as part of a bill to provide Ukraine with $61 billion in funding, Congress asked the Biden administration to submit a detailed strategy for Ukraine by early June.
A congressional aide said the long-awaited report was delivered to lawmakers on Monday, and they have not yet had a chance to review it. Two other sources, who wished to remain anonymous to discuss the classified information, confirmed that it had been delivered, – the article says.
According to Reuters, the US Congress has approved nearly $175 billion in aid and military support to Ukraine and allied countries over the two and a half years of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Biden’s support for Ukraine, the article notes, is welcomed by Democrats and many Republicans in Congress. Some Republicans, however, have criticized the administration for restricting Ukraine’s use of U.S. weapons, particularly for strikes on targets in Russia.
On April 20 this year, the US House of Representatives approved a national security bill that provides $95 billion in military aid for Ukraine, Israel and other US allies, including about $61 billion for Ukraine.
The vote came after Democrats and Republicans reached an agreement on the bills following months of dissent by some Republicans over continued US support for Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.
