On the afternoon of January 5, Russian drones targeted a facility of the American company Bunge in Dnipro, the city mayor Borys Filatov reported. The attack caused about 300 tons of oil to spill onto the city’s roads.
Russians bombed American property because the plant belongs to a company from St. Louis, Missouri. Tell the world about this, he wrote in an urgent statement.

Explosions and Consequences
According to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the drone strike sparked a large fire at the plant. In addition to the factory, cars and power lines were damaged. There is currently no information about casualties or injuries.
City workers are cleaning the oil from the roads and spreading sand and mixtures. The Embankment (the main riverside road) will remain closed for at least 2–3 days.
So, when you are stuck in traffic, please don’t swear, but say words of thanks to those working under these conditions, Filatov added, urging residents to understand the difficulties on the roads caused by the attack.

What Is Bunge?
Bunge is one of the leading American companies operating in Ukraine’s agricultural and food sector. It has been active in the country since 2002. It processes oilseeds, exports grain and oil crops, and produces vegetable oils and other products. The company also makes sunflower oil under the brand «Oleina». In addition to the Dnipro plant that was hit, Bunge owns several factories and grain elevators, as well as an export port terminal. According to the company, it “builds logistics links between farmers and consumers to provide the world with essential food, feed, and fuel.”

Background
The incident is part of another wave of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical and civilian infrastructure. Earlier, Russian forces launched five missile strikes on energy facilities in Kharkiv, the mayor reported. Russian drones also attacked a humanitarian aid distribution point in Kherson region, killing one person and injuring two others. In addition, a medical facility in Kyiv was hit, resulting in one death and at least four injuries.

Conclusions
The strike on the Bunge plant shows that Russian attacks have gone far beyond military targets, harming not only Ukrainian but also foreign investments and the economy. Given the scale of the oil spill and the damage to infrastructure, the consequences will be felt in the coming days.
At the same time, such deliberate attacks may further mobilize international support for Ukraine, as they involve hitting an American-owned business on Ukrainian territory. Meanwhile, local authorities are facing immediate challenges for residents—blocked roads and hazards on transport routes.
