15th package of sanctions against Russia agreed by EU ambassadors

European Union ambassadors have agreed on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia in response to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The new measures include restrictions on Russia’s “shadow fleet” – that is, third-country vessels that help Russia circumvent Western sanctions.

Sanctions have also been imposed on people and organizations from Russia and third countries that contribute to Russia’s military and technological advancement by helping it circumvent export restrictions.

The EU will allocate €170 million for drone defense to five countries bordering Russia and Belarus

The European Union will allocate €170 million to five countries bordering Russia and Belarus for drone defense. These are Norway, Finland, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia.

This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after a conversation with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

According to her, these countries “protect our common borders” from all forms of threats from Russia and Belarus.

Canadian Parliament approves military aid to Ukraine worth nearly $600 million

On the evening of December 10, the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament approved additional funds in the amount of 21.1 billion Canadian dollars. Of this amount, 764 million will be spent on military assistance to Ukraine.

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair noted that these funds will be spent on “ammunition, training and other items that Ukrainians desperately need to win”.

The document on additional financing of the Canadian budget also includes 400 million Canadian dollars for financial assistance to Ukraine, which will be allocated from the special account of the International Monetary Fund.
