As part of the Czech initiative, 100,000 units of ammunition will be delivered to Ukraine in July and August. This was announced on Monday, July 22, in Brussels by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, Suspilne informs.
This was reported by the Czech News Agency.
According to him, 18 countries have joined the initiative so far, and 15 of them have already fulfilled their promises and made their contributions. This means that there are enough funds to supply 500,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year.
During July and August we will send a total of 100,000 units of ammunition. We are now looking for money to buy more ammunition so that the initiative can continue into 2025. We could deliver up to 800,000 units this year if we had the money, – Jan Lipavský told reporters.
In addition, according to the Foreign Minister, the Czech side is in daily contact with Ukrainian partners.
The Czech initiative is looking for artillery ammunition for Ukraine in countries outside the European Union. Recently, the first batch of ammunition in the amount of about 50,000 units arrived in Ukraine.
According to the agency, the Czech Republic cooperates on this initiative mainly with the Netherlands and Denmark. The Czech Republic alone contributed almost 866 million crowns to the supply, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said in late June.
It is noted that some information about the initiative is very sensitive, especially about the countries where the ammunition is purchased.
It is well known that Russia is trying to undermine our initiative, trying to overpay, so we do not want to say where we get the ammunition from, – the Czech diplomat said.
On June 15, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said that the ammunition purchased under the Czech initiative was already arriving in Ukraine. This year, Kyiv will be able to continuously receive a “significant amount” of ammunition.
