Zelenskyy in the US calls for lifting restrictions on strikes on Russian territory

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United States to lift existing restrictions on strikes on Russian territory to protect Ukrainian cities from attacks by guided missiles.

The president said this during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, Suspilne reports.

Zelenskyy also thanked America for allowing him to strike military targets in Russia on the border with Kharkiv.

According to him, the Russian offensive has now been stopped there, and the Ukrainian military is pushing the Russian army out of the areas near Kharkiv. The President noted the destruction of Russian missile launchers that had been firing at Kharkiv daily for more than two years, which gave Kharkiv protection from missile attacks.

Imagine how much we can achieve when all restrictions are lifted. Similarly, we can now protect our cities from Russian guided bombs if the American leadership steps forward and allows us to destroy Russian military aircraft at their bases. This will also have an immediate effect. And we are waiting for this step, – Zelenskyy emphasized.

He added that it is possible to significantly limit Russia’s actions in southern Ukraine and drive the Russian occupiers out of there, provided that the American leadership helps Ukraine with the necessary capabilities for deep strikes on Russian military and logistics facilities in Crimea.

And we are talking about this with all our partners. And all these steps will strengthen us, like today’s extraordinary decision by the United States and partners to provide Ukraine with an additional five Patriot air defense systems and dozens of others, as well as to prioritize the provision of interceptor missiles to Ukraine, – Zelenskyy said.

On July 9, the 75th anniversary NATO Summit began in Washington. In addition to the 32 members of the Alliance, 35 partner countries, including Ukraine, are represented at the Summit. Among the key topics of the summit are the defense of the Alliance against Russian aggression in Ukraine, collective defense, military presence on NATO’s eastern flank, and nuclear deterrence.
