For the first time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi directly confirmed the offensive operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, Suspilne reports.

Currently, about a thousand square kilometers of Russian territory are under the control of Ukrainian troops.

According to the President’s Telegram channel, during a meeting of the Chief of Staff, Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on the defensive actions of the Armed Forces at the front and the operation in the Kursk region.

We continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Kursk region. Currently, we control about 1000 square kilometers of the territory of the Russian Federation. The troop groups are fulfilling their tasks, fighting is going on virtually along the entire front, the situation is under our control, – Syrskyi said.

The President thanked the military “for their resilience and decisive actions” and instructed the Minister of Internal Affairs, other government officials, and the Security Service of Ukraine “to prepare a humanitarian plan for the territory of the operation”.

A few more instructions. To the Coordination Headquarters, the GUR, the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs – to prepare a clear and transparent strategy for the return of our people from Russian captivity. To the Ministry of Defense and diplomats – to present a list of necessary actions on our part to obtain permission from our partners to use long-range weapons to protect our territory, – the President noted.

In addition, during his evening address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the hostilities in the Kursk region. He noted the symbolism of these events, recalling the sinking of the Kursk ship.

24 years ago, the Kursk disaster was a symbolic beginning of his reign, and now we can see what the end is for him. And it’s Kursk, too. The disaster of his war, – Zelenskyy added.

According to him, Russia brought the war to others and now “it is coming home”.
