President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a clause on a non-nuclear deterrence package in Ukraine’s plan for victory in the war against Russia, as it is an alternative to NATO membership until the end of the war, Suspilne reports.
The president said this at a meeting with journalists.
He said: “We do not have nuclear weapons and we are not in NATO, and we will not be in NATO until the end of the war. That is why I need this package.” We need a package that can stop Putin and reduce his military capabilities. I have found this alternative, – Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, his position is clear – he has never asked for the return of nuclear weapons to Ukraine.
Earlier, the German newspaper Bild reported that Ukraine was allegedly planning to create nuclear weapons “in a few weeks”. After that, Zelenskyy emphasized at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that Ukraine had never said that the country was preparing to build nuclear weapons. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also denied preparing nuclear weapons.
