The Associated Press reported this, citing US Vice President J. D. Vance. He represented the US delegation at the talks in Islamabad. The negotiations lasted 21 hours and ended without a deal, because Iran did not accept the US condition to abandon the development of nuclear weapons.

“It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to ceasefire,” said Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

He also stressed that Pakistan will support further dialogue between the US and Iran. Meanwhile, the Iranian delegation did not give any comments. The talks in Islamabad started on Saturday, April 11. Earlier, on April 8, Iran and the US agreed on a ceasefire, which they call “fragile.”

US position

According to Vance, he coordinated his actions with the US administration and stayed in constant contact with the White House. He said the main goal of the US side at these talks is to make sure Iran will not develop nuclear weapons.

“But the simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,” the US Vice President commented on the goal of the talks.

He called the US position the “final and best offer.” After the talks, J. D. Vance said there is no result and left Pakistan. Under previous agreements, the US promised to stop strikes on Iran for two weeks. However, Vance did not comment on whether these agreements remain in force. He also did not say what will happen after these two weeks.

At the same time, two anonymous Pakistani officials said that the third round of talks between the heads of delegations has ended. According to them, the talks will continue after a break.

Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that the US started demining the Strait of Hormuz. Donald Trump said this. The media also reported that US ships crossed the strait.
