President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola congratulated von der Leyen on his re-election.
This is a testament to your strong leadership and unwavering values in times of trial, – the President of the European Parliament wrote.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, also congratulated her, thanking her “for her personal leadership and all the decisions taken in support of Ukraine”.
He is convinced that the solidarity with Ukraine will remain unwavering, – said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
In her election program, von der Leyen promised to strengthen the EU’s defense policy, introduce defense commissioners in the European Commission, and promote the integration of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and the Western Balkans into the EU.

Von der Leyen’s appointment does not mean that the new European Commission will start working. The European Parliament still has to approve the candidacies of all commissioners, which may take weeks.
