What is known about the transfer of Caesar self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine

On April 22, 2022, France decided to provide Ukraine with 155-mm Caesar self-propelled artillery systems. It was about the transfer of 12 howitzers from the French army’s stocks.

Subsequently, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced that the government would continue to supply Ukraine with 155-mm Caesar self-propelled artillery systems.

Caesar is a French 155-mm self-propelled artillery system designed to destroy manpower, artillery batteries, pillboxes, and to provide passages in minefields and field obstacles.

The Caesar self-propelled artillery system is the “flagship of French artillery”. It has a 155 mm caliber and can fire at a distance of up to 42 km. It fires about 6 shots per minute.

Non-contact detonators for the Caesar allow the system to detonate shells in the air, before direct contact with the target or any surface. The artillery system can move at a speed of 80 km/h on the road and 50 km/h off-road.
