The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a package of Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) air defense missiles worth 162 million pounds during a meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s defense.
This is stated on the website of the British government, Suspilne reports.
The air defense package will be announced by Defense Minister John Healey today, September 6, at the 24th meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense, which will be held in Germany.
This follows a bilateral meeting between John Healey and his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov in London earlier this week, where they discussed how the UK will continue to increase support over the coming months.
The first batch of LMM missiles is expected by the end of this year. The military aid package is funded by the UK’s £3 billion a year pledge, as well as contributions from Norway through the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU).
In recent days, we have seen the tragic cost of Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Poltava and Lviv. These new British-made missiles will help Ukraine defend its people, infrastructure and territory from Putin’s brutal attacks, – commented Healey.
The LMM missiles, manufactured by Thales, are versatile and can be launched from a variety of platforms on land, sea and air. The missiles have a speed of Mach 1.5 and a range of more than 6 km. LMMs are used against a wide range of threats, such as armored personnel carriers, fast littoral combatants and unmanned aerial vehicles.
