The United States is considering sending at least 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East amid rising tensions around Iran.

Axios reported this, citing a U.S. Department of Defense official and other informed sources.
Military buildup
According to sources, the White House and the Pentagon may make a decision in the coming days. If they proceed, this move will significantly increase the U.S. military presence in the region and could signal preparations for a potential ground operation against Iran.
The plan involves redeploying troops from other units, not those already stationed in the Middle East. At the same time, the U.S. continues to build up forces: it sends fighter squadrons and Marine units to the region and prepares to deploy a brigade from the 82nd Airborne Division.
Three scenarios
Overall, U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is considering several options regarding Iran amid escalating tensions, CNBS reports. These include expanding the military presence and striking strategic targets.
One scenario involves attacks on Kharg Island. This is Iran’s key oil hub, through which most of its oil exports pass. The U.S. previously struck military targets on the island but did not target energy infrastructure.
Another option focuses on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. It plays a crucial role in controlling maritime routes. Strikes there could affect Iran’s ability to control shipping in the region.
A third scenario involves a broader U.S. military buildup in the Middle East. This includes deploying thousands of troops and potentially preparing for a wider ground operation. Officials already describe this as the largest deployment since the Iraq War in 2003.
At the same time, Donald Trump has not made a final decision on escalation. However, sources say he is ready to act more aggressively if talks with Iran fail.
Context
Discussions about a possible troop deployment are taking place alongside U.S. statements about readiness for negotiations with Tehran.
At the same time, Iran views these initiatives with distrust. It has not agreed to a high-level meeting, considering Washington’s proposals one-sided.
Previously The Ukrainian Review reported that the Trump administration is considering a large-scale military operation against Iran. The Pentagon has prepared plans for airstrikes and ground operations in case diplomatic talks fail.
