“They burned a Trump dummy”. Russian propagandists spread fake video about “Ukrainian” military

08.11.2024

Less than a day after the news that Donald Trump had won the US election, ISIS on this topic began to appear online.

One of them was posted on the X network by pro-Russian users. They posted photos and videos of people dressed in Ukrainian military uniforms threatening to kill Trump.

One of these videos was posted by Orthodox Canonist, who noted that the Ukrainian military set fire to and shot a mannequin dressed in Trump campaign merchandise.

He also wrote:

Ukrainian soldiers dress up mannequin in a Trump 2024 t-shirt & MAGA hat. They then begin firing at it, & set it ablaze. It’s time to defund this degenerate country.

However, Canonist did not indicate how he got the video, nor did he specify how the military on the front line got the election merchandise of the new US president.

Most of the latest posts by Orthodox Canonist are about Ukraine. All of them are full of anti-Semitic statements and hate speech.

It is noteworthy that such publications appeared on several pro-Russian channels at once. In particular, on Lord Bebo, one of the main spreaders of Russian propaganda in X.

Ukrainians burned a Donald Trump mannequin and called him a traitor for blocking weapons deliveries. I hope they’re happy he is president elect now, — he wrote.

One fact Lord Bebo did not take into account is that the military men speaking in the video have a distinct accent. Therefore, they can hardly be called “Ukrainian” military.

We also found a lot of posts about Ukraine on his page. Lord Bebo does not neglect fake news: he writes about repressions against Russian-speaking children, or spreads memes about how Ukraine is “begging” for money from the United States.

It’s ironic, because in his profile, he states that he distributes anti-fake content.

By the way, Darren Linville, a professor at the Clemson University Center for Media Forensics, responded to these publications. He also noted that the publication was most likely falsified.

On the heels of the election, pro-Russian influencers have been sharing this video of “Ukrainians” shooting and burning a MAGA dummy. We believe it is likely fake and a product of the Foundation for Battling Injustice’s Storm-1516 campaign.

In his opinion, this video contains all the Russian disinformation he has been tracking over the past two years. The goal of the Russians is to cut off Western military support for Ukraine.

He also added that to spread this narrative, Russia uses a network of influential people organized by the so-called “Foundation for Fighting Injustice”, created by the leader of the Russian PMC Wagner.

It should be added that no military structure in Ukraine officially speaks out on foreign policy, especially regarding the Trump presidency. And publications distributed from unknown sources cannot serve as a source of information. Especially when they are disseminated by pro-Russian channels, for which the spread of fake content is becoming a regular practice.

One question remains unanswered — where did the Ukrainian military get the MAGA cap?
