The Russian Federation launched a massive information campaign to destabilize the eastern region of Estonia. Propagandists spread calls for the creation of a self-proclaimed “Narva People’s Republic.” Estonian intelligence services warn of potential preparations for a full-scale invasion similar to the 2014 events in Ukraine.

The Bild outlet reported this, citing its own intelligence sources. Over the past few weeks, Russian channels on Telegram and VKontakte have actively promoted separatist slogans. These posts urge users to distribute leaflets, conduct sabotage, and take up arms against the Estonian government. The campaign organizers openly promise support from the Russian army to protect this fictional entity.
Details of the information attack
Pro-Russian resources published fabricated maps and symbols of the “Narva Republic.” The propaganda focuses on the city of Narva, where 90% of the residents are Russian-speaking. Estonian authorities view these actions as a direct threat to national security and an attempt to provoke internal conflict.
“Such methods have already been used in Estonia and other countries. This is a simple and inexpensive way to intimidate and destabilize society. This is a provocation, and participation in it can have criminal consequences,” said Marta Tuule, a representative of the Estonian Security Service.
Intelligence officials note that Vladimir Putin activated this scenario now for a specific reason. The Kremlin exploits the shift in global attention toward the conflict in the Middle East. It remains unclear whether this campaign is merely psychological pressure or a direct stage of preparation for armed aggression. However, Estonian security forces emphasize that the methods mirror the start of the occupation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Russia gains the most from the current oil crisis. The aggressor state earns up to $150 million in additional daily revenue from oil sales amid the war in the Middle East and rising global energy prices.
