Reactions of foreign and Ukrainian politicians

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the attack on the city of Sumy.

Russia could not but know that this nursing home is not a military base, not a military facility, – he said.

The President of Ukraine added that we “will definitely respond to the Russian army for this terror.”

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia (2012-2014), professor of political science Michael McFaul also reacted to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.

The right to self-defense is guaranteed in the UN Charter. If Putin doesn’t want Ukraine to defend itself, he should have not invaded Ukraine. (And the Charter doesn’t say you can only use your own weapons for self-defense!), – he wrote in X.

Russia targeted a boarding house for the elderly in Sumy. Their tactic is to sow fear among the Ukrainian civilian population, thereby forcing them to surrender. But Ukrainians have been fighting for their independence for a very long time, and they will not give up to Russian terrorists.

The cynicism of today is that when aerial bombs hit boarding houses є, people pay less and less attention to it. Even 5 years ago, for example, all leading publications were writing and talking about it. And the tragedy is that people are used to and do not notice such terrorist crimes committed by Russia.

This attack again shows the significant need for air defense systems. We ask Western partners to fulfill all obligations regarding modern air defense systems for Ukraine as soon as possible, because tens of millions of lives depend on it, – said Volodymyr Savchenko, the head of The Ukrainian Review.

The presidents of the world’s leading countries (Biden, Scholz. Macron) and the heads of international organizations (Ursula von der Leyen) have not commented in the attack on Sumy.
