$1.1 billion: Ukraine receives new IMF tranche
Ukraine has received $1.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund. This is the sixth tranche under the Extended Fund Facility program. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
The money will go to the state budget and will help the government finance critical expenditures, social assistance, salaries of doctors, teachers, etc.
In total, Ukraine has already received $9.8 billion under this program. Ukraine receives financial assistance when it implements structural reforms on its way to European Union membership and fulfills the IMF’s structural benchmarks.
94 dead and 700 injured: a cyclone caused a powerful storm in Mozambique
The tropical cyclone Chido made landfall in African Mozambique a week ago and caused a storm. The number of victims of the disaster has recently increased to 94, Deutsche Welle reports.
Chido devastated France’s overseas lands – the Mayotte Archipelago, located in the Mozambique Strait. The storm hit Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado, with gusts of up to 260 km/h. During the day, 250 mm of precipitation fell there.
About 620 thousand people were affected by the disaster, 500 thousand of them were residents of Cape Delgado. More than 700 people were injured, Anadolu Agency reports. 140 thousand homes, 52 hospitals, 89 buildings and 250 schools were damaged or completely destroyed.

By February 2025: Syria’s new government calls on Russia to fully withdraw its military
The new Syrian government is demanding that Russia completely withdraw its military contingent from the country no later than February 20, 2025. This is how they want to achieve the lifting of international sanctions after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
This was reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
Now, Russia continues to withdraw its military from Syria. However, the Sparta cargo ship, which was transporting Russian weapons and equipment, broke down while on the move.
The ship’s main engine’s fuel pipe failed. The Russian crew is trying to fix the problem and is drifting in the open sea near Portugal.
Now, the remnants of the Russian contingent in Syria have finished pulling out of remote areas and are in only two places – at the Hmeymim air base and the naval base in Tartus.
2 Patriot launchers: Germany hands over new aid package to Ukraine
Germany has handed over a new military aid package to Ukraine, which includes two air defense systems, IRIS-T and Patriot.
This is stated on the website of the German Ministry of Defense.
The new aid package includes:
- 15 Leopard 1 A5 tanks:
- 2 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns with spare parts;
- 30 MRAP armored vehicles with mine protection;
- PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer;
- 12 armored vehicles with kinetic defense systems;
- 7 Caracal airborne jeeps;
- IRIS-T SLM air defense missile system with missiles;
- IRIS-T SLS air defense missile system;
- 2 Patriot launchers;
- 2 TRML-4D radars;
- ammunition for Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks;
- 30 Vector drones, 24 RQ-35 Heidrun drones, 14 Hornet XR drones;
In addition, the package included generators, tents, turnstiles, small arms ammunition, 120 mm mortar ammunition, mines and demining equipment, and more.

$16 million: a warehouse with parts for Shahed drones destroyed in Russia
A warehouse storing parts for Shahed-136 UAVs, which the aggressor uses to strike Ukraine, caught fire in Russia’s Alabuga economic zone. This was reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
There were 65 fuselages of attack drones, as well as engines, navigation systems, thermal imaging cameras for the production of 400 Shahed-136 units – everything was burned down, – the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine said.
The aggressor’s losses caused by the destruction of the Russian warehouse are estimated at $16 million.
