The Swedish government is allocating a new energy package to Ukraine in the total amount of SEK 650 million (over EUR 56 million), Suspilne informs.
This is stated in a press release published on the website of the Swedish government.
“The new energy support will help ensure Ukraine’s energy supply so that basic social services such as schools, hospitals, transport, water supply and businesses can continue to function”, – the Swedish government said.
The new Swedish support for energy infrastructure is financed from the aid budget and managed by Sida on behalf of the government. It consists of two parts:
- SEK 500 million through the Energy Community of Ukraine Energy Support Fund;
- SEK 150 million through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
“Sweden supports Ukraine in political, military, humanitarian terms and through support for reconstruction, business, and development. Now, Ukraine is the largest bilateral recipient of Swedish aid”, — the government noted.
The Energy Support Fund of Ukraine will collect financial support from governments, international organizations and financial institutions to support the most urgent energy supply needs of Ukraine, such as the purchase of technical equipment. The fund will be managed by the international organization Energy Community.
It is known that the support through UNDP will be aimed at financing the urgent construction of energy infrastructure in Ukraine. We are talking about the high demand for technical equipment and other resources for energy production, such as generators, transformers, installations, and personnel training. In connection with urgent needs, priority will be given to Kharkiv, but other regions of Ukraine, such as Odesa, Kyiv and Mykolaiv, will be able to participate in the support.
