Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he wants to restore “normal” relations with Russia if the war in Ukraine ends during his government’s term. In his opinion, the European Union allegedly needs Russia, Hromadske reports.
Fico told journalists about this, Slovak media quoted him as saying.
If the war ends during the mandate of this government, I will do everything to restore economic and normal relations with the Russian Federation, I will do everything for this. The European Union needs the Russian Federation, the Russian Federation needs, of course, the European Union, – he said.
According to him, he also wants “normal friendly relations” with Ukraine. Fico added that every war ends at the negotiating table, and that there is no military solution to conflicts. In his opinion, Ukraine should remain a transit country for raw materials that Europe needs so much.
In addition, he mentioned Czech President Petr Pavel, who, according to him, changed his attitude to the war in Ukraine, saying “that Ukraine should prepare for some kind of compromise”.
Fico was apparently referring to the Czech president’s statement that Ukraine should be “realistic” about its goals in the war. According to him, it is necessary to accept that some Ukrainian territories will remain “temporarily” under Moscow’s occupation.
