German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has conditioned Russia’s participation in a possible peace conference in Ukraine, Suspilne reports.
According to Tagesschau, on Monday, September 9, in the evening, at the “Vorwärts” event, Scholz stressed that in addition to the necessary military support for Ukraine against the aggressor Russia, it is also necessary to explore ways out of the war.
According to Scholz, he, like the Ukrainian leadership, would like to see another peace summit, in which Russia should participate.
Of course, this will not work if the person who should be sitting there says: “I continue to attack. I think that in this situation we need what is always important in politics: clarity, firmness and character. That’s what it’s all about if you want to ensure peace and security in Europe, – Scholz added, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, Scholz said that now is the time for discussions on how to accelerate the end of the war in Ukraine and called on all parties to step up efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine.
Earlier, at a press conference, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about preparations for the second Peace Summit and expressed the opinion that Russian representatives should be at the second summit.
