Russia will not take part in the next Peace Summit, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said in a commentary to the Russian news agency “RIA Novosti”, Radiosvoboda reports.
According to him, Russia hears “the old rhetoric in a vain hope” to push the Zelenskyy formula, which Galuzin called “absolutely deadlocked and ultimatum”, and sees “a deliberate disregard for other initiatives to resolve the Ukrainian crisis”.
We do not accept such ultimatums and are not going to participate in such summit, – the Russian deputy minister said.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Ukraine wants to convene a second peace summit with Russia before the US elections in November. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there are already countries interested in hosting the second Peace Summit, and Kyiv has started negotiations with them. However, he did not name these countries.
The first Peace Summit, organized by Ukraine, was held in Switzerland on June 15-16. It was attended by 91 states and 8 international organizations. Due to Russia’s absence at the summit, some countries, including China, refused to send representatives to the meeting, as they considered it useless without the participation of “both sides of the conflict”.
