On the evening of March 24, western regions of Ukraine came under a massive drone attack. Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia were hit the hardest, with casualties and significant damage to civilian infrastructure.

Local regional military administrations, city mayors, and official services confirmed the attacks.

Lviv region
Drones struck residential buildings in central Lviv and the Sykhiv district. Historical sites, including the Lontsky Prison Museum, also sustained damage. The Bernardine Monastery ensemble, a UNESCO heritage site, was also damaged.

As of 8:40 p.m., 26 injured people remain in hospitals (24 of them in Lviv) with various injuries, some in serious condition. In one district of the city, two drones struck a residential building simultaneously.
In the village of Sernyky, Lviv region, falling debris from drones caused a house fire.
Ivano-Frankivsk region
A strike in central Ivano-Frankivsk killed two people: a National Guard serviceman and his newborn child. Four others, including a 6-year-old, were injured.
Around ten residential buildings were damaged, along with the city and regional maternity hospital facilities. The blast shattered windows, and one nearby administrative building sustained damage.
Ternopil
Air defenses operated in the city, and residents heard explosions as forces intercepted drones. Drones struck energy infrastructure and an administrative building. Officials reported power outages across the region.
Vinnytsia
A 59-year-old man died during the attack. The number of injured rose to 13, and doctors hospitalized some of them. The attack damaged nine private homes, two apartment buildings, and a non-residential structure. Emergency services are on site.
Zhytomyr
A 12-year-old girl was injured and hospitalized. A strike damaged a two-story residential building and shattered windows in neighboring structures.

Scale of the attack
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on March 24, 2026, Russia launched over 550 aerial attack assets in Ukraine. Throughout the entire day, the total number reached 948.
During the daytime, air defenses shot down or suppressed 541 targets, with a total of 931 neutralized throughout the day.
Context
The attack continued the massive aerial strike Russia launched on the night of March 24, when it deployed hundreds of drones and missiles across multiple Ukrainian regions.
Recently, Russia has intensified attacks on civilian infrastructure, including rail transport. Previous strikes on passenger trains in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions caused fatalities.
Earlier, The Ukrainian Review reported that 80% of Ukraine lacks air defense systems to protect against ballistic attacks, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
