Pentagon: Russia’s war against Ukraine is approaching stalemate

21.08.2024

Ukraine and Russia do not have the resources to conduct large-scale offensive operations. Because of this, the armed conflict is approaching a stalemate, Hromadske reports.

This assessment was made by analysts of the Pentagon’s intelligence directorate.

Experts point out that Ukraine still does not have the amount of ammunition that the Russian army uses on the battlefield, even after the United States unblocked a $60 billion aid package.

At the same time, Ukraine is able to conduct defensive actions, but will not be able to launch a large-scale counteroffensive within the next six months. At the same time, the Russian army, which is pursuing a strategy of attrition against Ukraine, is able to hold the territories it has already seized, but does not have enough forces to “threaten a deeper advance into Ukrainian-held territory, such as the city of Kharkiv”.

The analysts emphasized in their report that the Defense Forces have been successfully using the ATACMS missiles provided by Washington, which have destroyed several modern Russian S-400 air defense systems in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

This, in turn, prompted Russia to further strengthen its air defense on the peninsula, in particular with the most advanced S-500 systems that protect the Kerch Bridge.
