Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said he did not support Ukraine’s victory plan and once again offered to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, Suspilne reports.
Orbán said this on Kossuth radio on Friday morning, Index reports.
Orbán said that, in his opinion, this plan would not work, and immediate negotiations with Russia should begin. According to Orbán, “this conflict cannot be resolved at the front”.
He also said that 26 EU countries are “shocked” by Zelenskyy’s victory plan.
It will end in defeat… The other 26 countries listened in shock to Zelenskyy’s victory plan. What has been your experience so far? Until now, we thought we were following the victory plan. If they are now switching to a victory plan, then you still had a plan for defeat? – Orbán said.
He said that Hungary does not support this because “this is not Hungary’s victory plan”.
We have not participated in the war before and we will not participate in it again. You cannot win with this plan, – he said.
Orbán also said that he had heard rumors that Ukraine might become a nuclear power. But he had personally heard from the Ukrainian president that this was not true.
Perhaps there were differences in nuances due to translations, but it did not seem to me that Ukrainians want to become a nuclear power. However, the very possibility of this is frightening, – he said.
Orbán also said that he believes that there is “little room for speculation in a war”.
It is a good idea to negotiate from a position of strength, but we are weak. I like these wonderful phrases that are formulated in political salons, but in the meantime, thousands of Ukrainians are dying. A good idea is not to fight, to cease fire and end the war. Everyone has a war strategy, we have a peace strategy, – he said.
On October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a plan for Ukraine’s victory over Russia at a meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
