Journalists asked Scholz if he would like to follow Joe Biden’s example and withdraw his candidacy for chancellor in the upcoming federal elections. He responded by thanking them for the “extremely nice and friendly question”.

We are all determined to participate in the next parliamentary election campaign together and win. I will be running for chancellor to become chancellor again, – the German chancellor said, mentioning his Social Democratic Party.

Commenting on the poor poll results for the Social Democratic Party, Scholz said that they stimulate to strive for better results. He expressed hope that his party would be able to improve its position by the next elections.

Olaf Scholz has been heading the German government since December 2021. He became the ninth chancellor of Germany and the fourth chancellor from the Social Democratic Party, replacing Angela Merkel, who had been chancellor for almost 16 years.
