French President Emmanuel Macron criticized Donald Trump’s strategy during his state visit to Seoul. The French leader called for stability in international relations and consistency regarding Alliance issues. He also responded to personal attacks from his American counterpart concerning his marriage and commented on the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The President of France reported this to journalists in South Korea on April 2. He emphasized that Washington’s daily doubts about commitments exhaust the essence of NATO. Macron is convinced that global politics cannot be a show with constant contradictions. Specifically, France officially refused to assist the US in opening the Strait of Hormuz by force.
Security and personal boundaries
A military operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by force is unrealistic. Macron explained that such a move would last indefinitely and expose all vessels to immense risks from ballistic missiles and Iranian forces.
“We do not think we can open it by force; a military operation to liberate it would be unrealistic. So this was never an option we considered,” the President stated.
Separately, the French leader responded to Trump’s mockery of his marriage to Brigitte Macron, calling Trump’s words “inelegant and unworthy.”
“I am not going to answer that, it does not deserve an answer,” he emphasized.
On April 1, Donald Trump made sharp comments regarding Brigitte Macron during a press conference. He claimed that the French First Lady allegedly mistreats her husband. Trump referenced an incident at Hanoi airport on May 26, 2025, where Brigitte reportedly pushed Emmanuel. Although the French President explained it as a joke between spouses, Trump used the moment to mock the public.
Previously, The Ukrainian Review reported that Trump’s anger toward NATO allies unites Europe against him.
